These tricks don't work these days. Well, ethically speaking, they shouldn't, lol.
One of them is "exact match domains". Basically, you get a domain name which matches the term you are searching for. For instance, you are targeting "Used Cars in Idaho" so you register UsedCarsInIdaho.biz.
Another trick is making a Digg (the media platform) with an article linking to your site. First, the Digg would go to the top of Google (in some cases) and next your link would be on the front page.
