My brother lives in Nashville and he's disappointed that a bunch of specialty trees (imports from Japan - a gift from the country) were cut to make something for some football thing.

Anyway, that seems to be the scene in the world - and a problem with free markets. I mean, Nashville is booming - money is flowing in - and money calls the shots.

"When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money."

Materialism is its cage. Everyone thinks it's better to own as many stuff as possible.

Where I live, it was super controversial a few years back when dams had to be rerouted but in order to do so the would have to allow the water to flow over native American grave yards. This was a huge deal for very obvious reasons. Later it was decided to dig up the dead and relocate the bodies I think. Anywho the dams water was rerouted and flowed I've the old graveyard. The natives in Washington state at least are very very spiritual so in their eyes this was a great sin. But the state compensated them with money and this is one of many examples of what money does. Some see it as a sick act, and others see it as magic.

That's something we can relate, 2 cities disappeared in my country because of the biggest Hydroelectric plant in the world. No money can bring your home back when it's gone. All your memories just go.

Have you guys ever read The Lorax? that's kind of an extreme example, but it honestly shows the effects of money. The guy literally destroyed the earth from damaging the environment to the point of all of the trees dying and all of the animals left because he just wanted to keep making money.

Capitalism, I think, brings out the greed and selfishness in humans. People get corrupted by money the same way they get corrupted by power. Have you ever noticed some of the kindest and giving people are very poor or homeless? and some of the most greedy and selfish people make a lot of money?

It's all about materialism and having the most expensive stuff, and then they don't care about the effect it has on everything else. Mankind practically ran white rhinos extinct because they wouldn't stop hunting them and killing them to make money. Giraffes are endangered now, too. So many beautiful animals are dying because of us and so many places are being destroyed. The ocean is so polluted by us that animals will die and float to the top of the water with their stomachs full of fucking plastic bags. Mankind is so greedy and capitalism just feeds into it.

I recently had an issue at my old house with some polluted bath water. There was a 5,000 ton or so coal ash spill literally just a couple miles or less away. They said on the news the town I lived in had the 2nd most polluted water in the entire country. As for money I completely agree. I know plenty of wealthy individuals with kind hearts and great attitudes on life but a lot of people like that are indeed money grubbers. One day our planet is going to need to experience a significant change, otherwise all may eventually be lost. I try day in and day out to convince people God is the only light that can tame the beast inside man-kind. Believe it or not the change you experience is very real. And I don't mean to bring God into this but at this point I feel it's necessary. When you receive jesus it does actually create a change that will eventually make you a better person. Over time that change can have great effects. Can you feel it or is it noticable? Maybe not right away but over time it definitely is noticable. Maybe that's why I've met so many rich people that were kind and good hearted people. There's a lot of them who are. It's almost like the bible story about the piece of bread one man gave his neighbor that when that man needed it most, would not give it back. That's how a lot of these individuals act. You give them all kinds of stuff or help them out in all kinds of ways but they never want to return the favor.

For example, one time I asked myself. Why is it that we never see something that's free on the internet that would normally cost? Something of a paid nature. I thought to myself. Out of the several billion humans on the planet there should be at least some rich guy who doesn't need money who would create a free service or technology that was up to par with something paid. Then I realized it's because all these wealthy people are either 1) too lazy to make it and want to enjoy not having to work or 2) they want more money. I think that's pretty much the reason why money controls everything. You just want more or your too lazy to make anything free.

I've heard of it but haven't read it. Selfishness at some point is ok because i think is the only way to get better at something, you must desire it and try to beat others to achieve your goals (at least if you're the competitor kinda guy) also, everybody is good at spending other people's money but won't give a quid themselves.

The earth needs to go through major changes right now, and many efforts are being made to do this at the moment. large industries like Starbucks, for example, canceled the use of straws nationwide to reduce pollution. I have read news articles talking about how Washington state wants to ban all non-biodegradable in packaged products. In my opinion, this is a great idea that would have enormous effects following it. If a ban was put into place preventing non-biodegradable plastics, then giant companies like Walmart would have to change. Think about it. Walmart (and this is just one example) has tons of products most of which are packaged in plastic. They can't just lose an entire states worth of stores that would be impractical. So they would change how they do things and only start selling products from producers that package in bio plastic, other producers would see this and think to themselves "oh shit" and begin to package their products in the correct kind of plastic. This would stretch nationwide if all the producers started changing their packing ways then the manufacturers would start to do any bio plastic and I can go on and on about how each thing will affect another but I think I'm getting my point across fairly easy. Just this one change would have a extremely large butterfly effect and change the country for the good. put many people dont think about the after effect of things so votes like this typically get shut down because people dont take the time to think and just vote no.

The ones with money seem to want to blame the poor, rather than face their own faults.   However, the poor are an easy target - cause many are afflicted with laziness, drug use, criminality etc.   Nonetheless. it's still a scapegoat so the rich/middle class don't have to look in the mirror.

Power, money,and greed have destroyed our world. People have become so materialistic and selfish that they are just bothered about amassing wealth. Little do they realize that all these wealth and power is useless when you are dead. Destroying nature and natural habitat just to satisfy their greed is the norm of the day for all the so called rich and successful businessmen and the ever greedy politicians. They do not accept that by destroying nature, they are depriving our future generation a minimum of a healthy life.

Little do they realize that all these wealth and power is useless when you are dead. Destroying nature and natural habitat just to satisfy their greed is the norm of the day for all the so called rich and successful businessmen and the ever greedy politicians. They do not accept that by destroying nature, they are depriving our future generation a minimum of a healthy life.

It's just their wives pushing them!  Nah, just kidding, lol, well maybe not to some extent.  Anyway, a lot of times people are under massive society pressure I think to "do the wrong thing".
