Like vBulletin which once stood at the pinnacle of forum management softwares from every conceivable point started declined because they refused to innovate or bring new products into the foray. Today, vBulletin is largely forgotten with most of the backend development being stagnant and not bringing fresh ideas and not getting new customers.

I think a similar stage will come for XF because they are not releasing new features at all. Most of them have been extensions and modules trying to ensure that they have everything that others have. Additionally, because its not open source like phpBB, innovation has largely stopped.

What are your thoughts?

Speaking of vBulletin I joined a forum using that software today. The first vb forum I've joined for a number of years. It looks quite nice what they've done with it.

The issue is that its what they have looked like for the past 10 years and nothing much has changed.

However, I should agree that the kind of fine things like moderation, ACP panel, icons on forum lists, sub forums and such items where infact the brainchild of vB.

The slow innovation speed of XF is something we both find worrisome. In order to maintain market success XF must enhance its capabilities to compete effectively.

XenForo is cool, but I get bored with it. I like to try different types of software. For instance, my new big project is on phpBB.

We shouldn't be so prejudiced that we ignore a comeback.

Well what can I say. They released vBulletin 6 so my question is to anyone who has either joined a site with the new software or owns their own license, have they made a comeback with version 6 in your eyes? It mostly looks the same but I never used a demo and don't know how the admin panel looks. Personally there's nothing wrong with using vBulletin but it's still so much a pain in the ass compared to xenforo in my opinion. Has vBulletin 6 got any better than it's predecessor vBulletin 5? I own a vBulletin 5 license but never use it.
