I am building a Gaming PC and many shopkeeper suggesting to add SSD.

Why SSD is so important? ?

RE: Why SSD is so important?

It's mainly because it's faster. SSD stands for Solid State Drive. And it's the fastest form of a hard drive available. The new consoles were upgraded to it this generation as well. Our web hosting for Cafe Discussions also runs on SSD. I skipped out on it for my laptop and it's not necessarily required but as said it is much faster.

So can we use SSD to store games ? I heard its only help to boot fast into Windows so what if we store game on it ?

1@Phoenix You can store anything on it. It's a hard drive. That's what it is and nothing more. Out of the two options available - HDD and SSD.

The oriental hard drive is HDD. SSD is just a new form of a hard drive that they released. It can hold anything, including games, downloads and all your files. It's the same thing as the ordinary hard drive - Just much faster.

Sorry for the noob question but many people use SSD only for Windows and HDD for storing games, files. Why don't they use SSD for the same purpose ?
I am asking because i buildiing a gaming PC and i am completely blank

Here's an article on it. To be honest with you, the amount of storage it holds is really the only reason anyone should be using HDD. But if you need a lot of storage you actually can use both at the same time. Which may be a viable option. This article intels what it is and what the difference is.

I can simpfy it a bit more. SSD is the newer HDD, but since it is new that means it cost more but has become a lot more affordable in recent years.

Plus since it has no moving parts it is a lot better than HDD that had spinning dics in it which makes it a safer form of storing your data. I'm positive that in 10 years, you won't find any home use PCs still using HDD.

RE: Why SSD is so important?

I have two SSDs and I put everything on them, games and all. I get around 520-530 mb/s transfer. Windows 10 boots in 10 seconds and games/app are amazing. SSD prices have really come down too. You can get a 2TB SSD for like $250, :O

RE: Why SSD is so important?

I have an M.2 SSD in my PC, 2 TB one actually. I plan on adding a 1 TB either HDD or SSD for extra storage.

I am probably the same..I mainly use HDD for my games.

Don't always plan on sticking to that, Rachet and clank on PS5 require an SSD to be played on.

RE: Why SSD is so important?

Yeah 1@Demon_skeith it's a bit unfortunate the lengths Sony and Microsoft have both gone to make a buck. Now you can't even play anything but the older Xbox One and below games on HDD for the Series X. You have to invest like $250 in their new 1 TB SSD hard drive just to go over the internal 1 TB if you run out of storage. I can't complain simply because of how breathtaking the games are. Gave Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance a try just tonight and I am blown away at how amazing it is - Graphics and all. I have no problem paying for something this well made if I have the funds to do it.

But you all more then likely should be prepared for almost everything to start running on SSD - Sometime in the next 10 or so years. Probably much less. I suppose Microsoft and Sony's step in this direction can only set the tone for most corporations to drop HDD completely after it becomes more affordable. That may be high talk, especially since HDD usually has more space, but it's not the specs of SSD keeping the storage low - To put the icing on the cake - It's more the fact that companies have to pay extra and out of pocket - For quality. If you want quality you have to pay for it and unfortunately for us, the don't want to spit out a ton of money just to provide the end-user with something they won't make much money on.

And as I said, that's the interesting part. The fact that it's not any specs that cause the storage to be less than HDD when available but what someone's willing to pay. Makes me almost want to switch everything I own to SSD. It is a hella ton faster and when you have enough space for it you will notice the difference. Just glad the Series X at least has internal SSD.

I agree with you all it's freaking amazing in adding a ton of speed to process stuff. Helps a ton in not having any lag when streaming or 3D designing.

This is a moot point. Doesn't the PS5 come with an SSD as standard?

RE: Why SSD is so important?

It's just faster and more responsive with a much quicker access time. Put Windows on a SSD and it will boot faster, load applications quickly, feel snappy etc. Even just opening menus can be more responsive. It's hard to express how significant the difference is, but once you've used a SSD a hard drive can feel frustratingly slow.

But times have moved on and as the furture moves, they get faster with M.2 drives are now the tech more then 2.5 SSD drives.

RE: Why SSD is so important?

Solid-state drive is what it's called. It's a hard disc that doesn't have any moving parts, unlike ordinary hard drives. Instead of the magnetic discs that typical hard discs use, solid-state drives utilize flash memory chips that "store" the data. A solid-state drive has the advantage of being substantially faster than a typical hard disc drive. It's also significantly smaller and lighter. A solid-state drive also outperforms a regular hard disc drive in terms of reliability. Overall, a solid-state drive outperforms traditional hard disc drives.
