'A la recherche du temps perdu; by Marcel Proust contains an estimated 9,609,000 characters. The title of this French novel translates to "Remembrance of Things Past" and apparently it is the longest book out there. I am not sure how many more there are quite like this, but I can imagine it taking a very long time to read it!

So then... what is the longest book that you read? How many characters or pages did it have? How long did it take you to finish it? Or maybe you are still reading it?

RE: The longest book you have ever read?

The longest book I've read to be honest is the Harry Potter books. I read all 7 books in my youth. Most people would say the same. I wish I could say I was a huge reader of novels but not in the least. Considering how big the book is, I think most people would be in the same predicament for the longest book. The lord of the rings is another long book though I have not read it.

The longest books I've read is the Holy Bible. After that I would say that I've read series but as far as one long book it would be Gone With The Wind. My friend recommended that book to me since she was absolutely gushing over Rhett Butler and I found myself entranced with the storyline, having only seen parts of the movie prior. I watched the movie afterward and found that I really prefer the book version!

Because of how small the words are. It should be far longer then Harry Potter even with it's size. I've read a good bit of the bible before but haven't in a long time. I'm familiar with the classic stories or most of them. The technicolor dream coat is my favorite story.

Harry potter books for me as well, never read anything as long as they were.

I've started reading the Game of Thrones series. I think those are the longest books for me, so far.

(I haven't finished reading all of them yet so please don't spoil anything for me, please and thank you)

I do not call it the longest book in the world that I read :P But I did read all the full storybooks in two days. Call Of The Wild :) and still till this day I got to watch the film about it ;)

A Storm of Swords in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (all books in this series are long anyway), which has about 1100 pages and has the most words per page in any book series I've read. I would say I'm keen for the Winds of Winter but given the wait for it, I'll be excited when it is released.

From start to finish, the longest books I read were the Bible (King James Version), The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, and The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. The last one, pretty much gave tons of stats and history, and totaled somewhere in the 1500 page range I think; or more including the appendix. Kinda did read through that too. :D My father couldn't even get a third of the way through that book, due to never paying attention to statistical math classes, that would have helped with his history classes.

Its undoubtedly, Harry Potter. The launch of the book, I remember was a grand affair. I couldn't get my hands on the book for sometime due to unavailability because of huge demand. But I tell you, it was worth the buy and I enjoyed reading each and every page of this massive book.

"The day of the Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth was the longest book that I have read.  I never skipped a page.  I read every minute detail in it.
