Does anyone go running as a hobby? Have you done any distance running for charity, or recreationally? Do you do Parkruns -are these as popular in the USA?

I wouldn't say that I run regularly enough to class it as a hobby, although I do find it does my mental health a world of good. I can just escape my own thoughts for a bit, and concentrate on reaching a finish line whether it's a physical one or a goal that I have set myself (X number of laps around the park).

I've done 2-3 half-marathons, and 4-5 10K runs for charity - my first half-marathon was done with practically zero training. I think my best times were about 2h 24m for a half, and 1h 5m for a 10K. I'd love to do some proper training and try to beat those times someday.. Possibly to build myself up toward a full marathon (for some reason I fancy doing London and New York).

I've done about 20 Parkruns, and plan on doing them again once they're back up and running to try and lose a bit of weight.

RE: Running

Running is an all round workout exercise that impacts all over your body. It's actually why I love running unlike other exercises that are targeted at specific parts of the body.

RE: Running

Running would be too much for me. I can manage jogging. But for my body, walking would only be ideal and best.

RE: Running

Rather than running, I do jogging and brisk walking now a days. Probably lost my stamina for long distance running. I have taken part in Marathon during my younger days, successfully completing most of the races. I have slowed down a bit and does these only to keep myself fit.

RE: Running

The only running I do is running behind my pet doggy.  I get adequate running exercise with my doggy though I get tired soon.  I always wonder how much stamina my doggy has, he keeps chasing the butterflies and cats in my garden.

I have a fixed routine so I have to run at least 2 miles a day.
I actually prefer walking to running. I tend to lose my breath easily when I get to run too much but when walking, it's that easy for me.

Running is one of my favorite hobbies! It’s a great way to clear my mind, get some fresh air, and stay in shape. Whether it’s a quick jog around the neighborhood or a longer run in the park, it’s an essential part of my fitness routine.
