Renaming Sports Teams Due to History Problems

The Washington Redskins were recently renamed The Washington Commanders, but fans hate the name which they claim is weak.    Anyway, before then, they were called "The Washington Football Team", a name which people even said was better than Commanders, though, worse than Redskins.

Anyway, maybe the Redskins name had to go.  Obviously, it was really offensive, but I didn't think Cleveland Indians was.   Anyway, though, they could have picked a better new name for Washington like Washington Warriors or Washington Presidents.

Well, do you think these sports renaming stuff is being too sensitive and at what point might it go too far? Well, look at all the names certain people find offensive as team names.   The USA is full of them in every county it seems like.

RE: Renaming Sports Teams Due to History Problems

The sports team renaming is common right from the ancient time, till date. Even here in my country, the football club of my state named 'Rivers United' was formed as a result of merging of two football clubs called 'Dolphins and 'Sharks in 2016.

I don't think the Washington Commanders is too bad of a name. Doesn't seem half as bad as it seems in my opinion.

I do not know about the sports team the OP is talking about but I do believe that some names are offensive and should be corrected. These days it is very important to sound politically correct.
