Movie better than book?

Is there a movie that you found to be better than the book?

I have always been an avid reader until recently and now prefer to watch movies instead of reading the books. I did read the Harry Potter books and saw all the movies multiple times and at first I thought I loved the books more but since the movies are shown all the time on tv now I'm leaning more toward the movies as I can appreciate so many things that were done in production.

I would have to say the Harry Potter franchise as well. Although I love the movie adaptions of coraline and let the right one in.

I'd say The Godfather. Maybe wuthering heights.. but i don't really know. Popular books like HP i think they come better than the movie.

I would honestly say Harry Potter too but I enjoyed the books far more then I did the movie. I remember reading the 7th book when I was 19. It's quite something I will miss those cherishing memories. They could have done better with the movies. I wasn't impressed. Most books I've read that involve movies are usually much better.

Really? Having also read the entire series and watched all of the films, I'd say they did a marvelous job translating the text to the big screen when comparing to another novel's translation like Ender's Game or Eragon, both with botched films. I can only hope that Dune this fall will have half the success and beauty of the Harry Potter films on screen.
For me, it will probably be Lord of the Rings. Don't get me wrong, they're great novels; but, there's nothing like seeing the elves, goblins, orcs, etc brought to life on the screen and those cinematic battles...man, just makes me wish I could throw on some armor and join them.

I was thinking Lord of the Rings when I first saw this thread but have never read the books. And I think they did a good job too on Harry Potter. What I meant by not impressed is just that I think they could have done better. Maybe that's just my wild imagination from when I read the books. Just seemed to be much more descriptive in my opinion then a lot of the scenes they acted out. There seemed to be more life in the book. Then again it could just be because it was a book.

I'd have to agree with you there (even though I too haven't read the books in ages). The later books really gave good detail as to why characters were motivated to do the things they did and I felt the movies sort of rushed some scenes without giving better context. Even though a few people complained about them splitting it in two at the time, the Deathly Hallows movies really shine because they gave it the length it needed.

I can agree with that. The main issue now that I remember was leaving out details that involved Voldemort. It seemed a lot of the scenes in the book with the Death Eaters... etc were not acted out as much as what there was to read. Seemed they might not have wanted the book to take too much of an evil tone. Though that was really most of what I can recall about the books.

I can't think of anything where the movie was better than the book. But I'm one of those people that would prefer to read the book than watch the movie.

Don't get me wrong, I'll normally watch the movie that's based on the book (unless it looks really, really stupid). But prefer reading as opposed to watching. Now, there may be a few instances where they did a good enough job making the movie and it's as good as the book but I don't think I've ever watched a movie that was better than the book.

When you do an adaptation you can't do the same stuff as the book, or what can your audience expect? You can follow the same universe, same characters etc.. but you can't just copy paste it. Same thing happens in Anime.

[/QUOTE]As far as I'm concerned, reading a book is too stressful than watching a movie. I tend to be more relaxed whenever I watch a movie than read a book.
