What are your opinion about Landing pages?

10 to 15 years back, its used to be the 'go to' option especially when forums decide to celebrate festivals like Christmas and New Year. However, iwth the onset of the idea of 'simplified' webpages, it has been largely stopped.

Would you be comfortable with forums having landing pages? Would you see it as a hassle?

Landing pages should offer value but I don't think it appear to be effective for forums. It's always better to go with uncomplicated format that enables quick access.

Landing pages for static websites that only include downloads and so forth is something that isn't too bad but if your the owner of a site that has members on it that your trying to get to sign up it can be much of a deterrent to get the user to click out before they join. I do not recommend it for sites that have members. Your better off with a welcome notice like mycafetalk.

I seen a couple sites use landing pages. I think it can be beneficial if the site has promotions for new members/guests to view.

Smf simple machine forum open software offer a plug-in named tiny portal gives you a landing page with all the important stuff of the site.
