RE: Free domains

I'm actually surprised .tk is still going, I remember having one back in the ezboard days (2001-2002).

RE: Free domains

Tk was one of the most popular because it had a very short url and very similar structure of a paid one. Yeah it was really cool for small forums and stuff.

RE: Free domains

You can go to 1and1.com and get a .com domain for $1 your first year. After that it's only like $15 a year. Considering it's only a dollar for a .com extension it's pretty worth it. I find myself using godaddy the most though only because the domain propagates much faster.

One dollar for the first year, not bad.

Surpised .tk is still up and running considering the amount of torrent and virus ridden websites used it. I run away from .tk domains. :p

I don't use TK domains either though I can't say that it would be a bad thing either. I can see how TK domains have been abused in the past but I'm not sure if would have much to do with the domain registrar in my opinion. But I think I get what you mean anyway, that you wouldn't join someones site that was Dot TK. Which I probably would if they were from forum promotion but unless it was someone I was in communication with I would stay away from them as well.

Back in the day it was the nest of people that owned a site and didn't have the money for it. I hosted my first RPG community in one of those back in 2004.

That was a very long time ago lol.

I would never allow that ;)

Personally the 1@Thomasss[/uSER] is right about one thing, that it's a turn off to other users whether they will join your site or not. That's mainly the reason I wouldn't. If you can afford a $1 Dot Com from 1and1.com then there's no need to get a dot.tk domain. It's mainly for young teenagers or children to explore free domains when they are young and don't have the money. At least that's what I did when I was a kid.

@NewsProject look for the archive of this site from 2003 (Yahpoolerz.tk). It was my site from 2003. It wasn't up long but I guarantee it was within that year. I want to see what's on it. I would be excited to see what it looked like. That was when I was 13. If you find it, I will post those 10 posts on your site by the end of the day instead of in 4-5 days guaranteed. Post the link in this thread.

No archive found. I searched for it, but the way back machine couldn’t found anything.

RE: Free domains

Don't worry about it. I will post them by the end of this coming weekend. I appreciate the search nonetheless.

LCN.com are giving away free .co.uk domains :)

names.co.uk are also but they charge you a quid, which is deposited back into your bank within 72 hours.

There was a company called freenom that offered free domains, these domains came with the extensions like dot tk, dot cf, etc. But the company stopped service a long time ago. These days some hosts gove you dot com or dot net free if you buy hosting from them

What I am saying is not free, but it's a good deal. It's the fact you can search and find at least one deal (probably more out there) where .coms are a dollar. Anyway, I won't mention where it is cause it would be spamming on here.

There are probably places to get free domain extensions. However, I think they are tough to find and tough to implement. Of course, I'm talking about free "with no strings attached", like what used to be on Freenom.
