RE: Emulators.............

Interesting thread. I never took the initiative to use an emulator on my computer but the way you described the game boy advanced emulator on your phone sounds amazing. I might have to try that out. I actually still have a Gameboy Color with some pokemon games laying around from the olden days.

Do you have a jailbroken phone? Or is it in the apple/android shop? Great find to post about that. A lot of people wouldn't even know you could do that. I'm excited about nintendo switches virtual console where they're releasing NES and SNES games you can play on the switch if that sort of counts.

there is a free app (not sure if its for apple) on android called "myboy" that acts as the emulator. from there you must jailbreak your phone, i think there is also a option in developer settings to do so. in order to unlock developer settings you go to you settings find your phones build number and tap it 7 times fast. last step is to look up on your phone "gba roms" and you shall find yaself a huge selection of thousands of games. you can also do this with Ps2 but thats a pretty illegal thing to do so im not gonna share that one, but you sure do get get some good faces when people see you playing Ps2 games on your phone.

RE: Emulators.............

1@Andox88 I might have to try this sometime. I'd never mod my xbox one if it was even possible yet which I don't think it is yet but I know you can mod PS4 or so I've heard. Anyways I may jailbreak my phone at some point to play pokemon. Would be fun. What games are legal to download? I'd love to play DS games like pokemon platinum. I've been wanting to play that but sold my DS and 3DS a while ago.

technically speaking emulators are illegal considering all games are free to download, but yeah you can get super mario, mario cart, all the pokemons, and pretty much anything else. you just gotta get the right emulator, weather you want gameboy or DS or any other device is uup to you, and you can have as many as you want. if you do end up doing it i can send oyu websites that are safe to download from.

I didn't necessarily know it was illegal. I sort of thought you could pay for certain games. In that case to each his own I guess... I keep it 100% safe to use. I don't like the idea of breaking the law at any given time. Anyways are you sure there's no legal way to use emulators?

RE: Emulators.............

Emulators aren't because they don't violate any law, ROMs violate copyright laws. So while it doesn't make sense to use emulators without ROMs, it is legal. Just like it islegal to have an empty beer bottle if you're under 16 but not have alcohol. ROMs are the files you download that contain the gam. so its not allowed to download them but once you have it, alright. just one of those rare cases. (i did a quick google search)

Thanks for the tip. That sounds good. I'll be sure to keep that advice in mind. I don't see anything wrong with downloading games to my phone but I probably won't either way after hearing this. Not that I want to be soft or anything I just like to do things the right way. I wouldn't even play them a lot in the first place. Just little side games I'd play once in a while. Anyways thanks for the information.

RE: Emulators.............

Ah, like Andox said, emulators aren't illegal. Downloading Roms off the internet and playing them is illegal. Emulators are technically made so you can backup your own games into rom files and play them that way. However, once you have a rom file, it's hard to tell whether or not it's a backup of your game or someone else's. Most companies don't like Emulators because then they can't make profit from a game that you could just download on an emulator by putting it on an emulator on one of their consoles so that's why you'll see some games are unavailable or hard to find as rom files.

you pretty much summed them all up. the only sites i trust to download roms from tho are emuparadise and roms mania, other than those 2 im afraid to download roms from other sites for mobile at least, if im downloading on my computer then uturrent is the only place i trust, but i would never recommend that site for downloads because its super sketchy.

RE: Emulators.............

I own the John GBC emulator, works fine with most of the pokemon games and that's what i usually play on it because it feels weird on a touch screen to play some jumping games like Mario but i haven't tried those gamepads for cellphones yet, if you could recommend me a good one i might adventure to play my beloved Aria of sorrow again.

RE: Emulators.............

I have an Android emulator on my computer but have never heard about other type of emulators and think it's a pretty cool idea. I'm not sure I would want to break any laws though in downloading games that need to be paid for without paying.

I use BlueStacks to play games on my laptop instead of my phone because it saves battery but also I can see everything larger and work faster at playing the game with my mouse.

RE: Emulators.............

1@Lämmchen This thread is a bit old. At the time I had never tried an emulator and was simply intrigued by it. You are probably right in deciding not to. The only law if they are cartridges and not cd roms are copyright infringement which would have to be filed by the owner of the game. Still, to me it's not worth the trouble. You can also be sued over it. Usually your given a warning to get rid of them if Nintendo or whoever it is decides to issue one. They usually don't file charges but in some cases have and a lot of times it's for people that are selling them. The Digital Millenium Copyright Act is the law you should look at if your wanting to know the legality behind it. The area in the law in particular is where you change the operating system or what is called the Bios. Which almost all roms do this. But once again the creator or Nintendo (whoever it is) would have to file charges. That's the main reason most people don't care. If your using a CD-rom instead, and yes that includes playstation classic and the popular "bleemsync" people have been messing around with, that's actually when piracy laws come into play. That's an entirely different story.

Thought I should just clear up details on the law for anyone who wanted to know the specifics. If you want to read the entire law behind DMCA you can search it in Google and get the full details. Basically a copyright law, that for emulators is primarily based on changing or manipulating the works. There is a specific on it in regards to homebrew and modding where you would actually have to have a copyrighted work to begin with but other then that it sums it up.

I will also mention for bluestacks it's not illegal at all if you are using free games. It actually is illegal if you are playing games that cost money, even if you own the game on your phone. Which a lot of people don't realize. I'm incredibly smart with the law and follow it to the best of my ability and know it fairly well.

RE: Emulators.............

I use to play emulated games on my phone, but I'd only do it for games I've already owned. However, I haven't after buying all of my oldschool consoles and devices. I have all but the original Gameboys, almost all older consoles, etc.

I have used an Android emulator to play android games on my PC but the experience was not good. Therefore, I stopped doing that.

I'm not into playing any games with emulators.

I find it very stressful to go through the whole process before I can play my video games. It's why I don't use it.

I have had a good experience with emulators in the past when I was still younger in playing video games.

I haven't played with emulators for a long time now.
