Yeah I thought it would help out the site a decent bit with users getting to know eachother. I hope to grow the site quite a bit in the future and I thought that was neat. As a nice little add-on I bought. We run on Xenforo 2 software. If you have any questions let me know.

Been thinking about it on my site, but just went with a discord instead. It's a nice xenforo addon though.

There's the ability to embed the discord chat with widgetbot.io - I never have looked into it. Chat seems good where it's at since it's a popup.

I don't like the discord idea, since you it wont attach with a forum and you have to launch the app every time but on website we can get everything topics + Chat

1@Phoenix[/uSER] actually widgetbot io actually embeds the discord chat onto your site. It's the same discord integration add-on I have for Cafe Discussions but I didn't want to use it and opted for the actual chat only because it's a pop-up (which was a feature I actually request - The developer added). What the add-on does is update a channel within my discord server the gives a link and a short excerpt to latest threads/posts/announcements and so forth. But glad you like the chat. You can join the discord if you decide you want to.

The only problem I see with this suggestion is, it's most likely going to drastically reduce forum posting activity.

We're in 2022 and forums aren't really as attractive as they used to be years ago. A lot of my friends refuse to use forums. With a chatbox, some cliques might up and leave for something like Discord or an alternative in due time.

It's extremely annoying that people will utilize reddit, twitter and the like which do little to contribute to actual discussion and serve as little more than personal soapboxes. I have friends who used to be huge fans of forums and message boards before a lot of social media and now they 'don't see the point' of using them.

I've tried arguing about how forums promote community and allow you to have a form of self-expression in your avatar and signatures; but, they don't see the point in taking the time for that. Instant gratification has ruined a lot of things.

There are cons and positives to having a chatbox. Same might see there are far more negatives than anything else. But having two senses and discussing this matter helps anyway in this topic.

  • It's great to be able to talk and get to know people, or just have that live cool thing. No delays and also no spamming

  • takes away people from posting in forums, I mean that's the last option we do not want

  • People or member won't bother with things as they use the live chat

  • live chat can have bots posting in the chatbox when there is a new topic or post.

I mean does not hurt to even have the chetbox open for one day only every week

I remember back in the days of InvisionFree and ZetaBoards that there was a mod that converted messages in the chatbox into replies so that the forum was still generating content that could be counted without having to worry about whether or not members would reply to actual threads.
