When it comes to spending money, which one are you? Do you like to splash the cash or do you prefer to keep it in the bank for a rainy day?

Do you make smart purchases or are they quite impulsive? What kind of things do you like to spend your money on?

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I don't usually see much money since I've been sick for a good while so I usually just spend it. I get a small amount every so often and I spend it almost right away. Though I get christmas and birthday gifts from my family. Aside from this Christmas as I'm getting the new Series X console, I will probably try to save a bit next time at least for a couple months so I can spend it better. If I had a job and was getting larger amounts, I probably would save more often.

Spender but starting next year I want to save most of my money. Currently impulse buyer.

That said, what I want to get:

  • iMac 2021 edition

  • Gold Bullion / Sovereigns

  • Apple Watch

  • iPad Air redesigned

Just to name a few

Just to name a few things I want/need

  • Apple AirPods Pro or whatever released next year

  • iMac 2021

  • Gold Sovereign

  • Silver

  • Vacuum sealer

  • Apple Watch

  • New Bed

  • New Drawers

  • PS5 ($200 Left)

And I kinda want to get a $700 PEN that I can have for the rest of my life and pass down, assuming nothing happens to it!

But I do want to start saving 60%-70%.

Wow man, you really earn good cash to have all of this in just 1 year.

I'm planning to get a new bed as well.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

A bit of both.. Traditionally I'm a saver, although this year I've treated myself a bit more than usual and have been spending.

If you can't do it during a global pandemic, when can you do it.. :p

It's what I want. Don't have any of it yet. I'm going to get the iMac end of next year. But next year I want to save the majority of my money.

You can always make some money by selling things you don't use anymore. Having objectives like this is good! you tend to save more.

Yeah, but I don't have much stuff as it is since I got rid of stuff because I was practicing minimalism but took it to far and got rid of must stuff because I thought I didn't need it. And, I didn't get the stuff again, so... But I am still sticking to minimalism but in a better way.
Going back to saving money, I still live at home, which as long as I can save, I'll be able to save a lot, since I don't have to pay for a lot.

Accumulating things isn't good either, fills your mind with useless thoughts as well. Feng Shui is very important for resting your mind and body!

Most important thing is to pay off my phone than I can start saving up.
What's your opinion on buying physical books? I was considering buy only my favourite books I've listened to with Audible. I probably wouldn't read them due to my eyesight. But just to get an idea of how much stuff I have, think of whatever you've got in your room and add a TV if you don't have one.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

Saver. We splurge on occasion but we don't have any debt. Don't even believe in credit cards. We pay cash for things we need.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I pay cash as well. Never been the type to ever try and use a credit card unless the money is already on there or prepaid. I don't like having to owe someone something. I do pay it back if I ever did but it's not my preferred way of handling things.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

This thread is so me...I'm a SAVER! I'm so frugal that I've trained my daughter to be the same and her friends laugh at her for getting excited about saving money when she shops!

We have credit cards that give us monetary rewards, gas rewards, etc so even if I do have to shop (which I really hate doing) we save money in some way.

If anyone wants to know my frugal ways then start a new thread and I will gladly share any tips.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I'm a saver, though when I spend I tend to spend :P

I can't wait for the day I'm debt free, I'll make it rain in restaurants and stores :P

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I've just recently paid off all of my debt.. and damn, it feels good!

I'd like to think I was primarily a victim of circumstance - I'd bought a fairly new car in 2017, only for it to develop a fault with the clutch which needed some work doing to put right. I borrowed money to have the work done, but it didn't fix it.. So instead of spending any more money on the fault, I decided to trade it in last year against another fairly new car. All in all, I had around £10k of debt at the start of 2020.

I've been working two jobs since just before the first UK COVID lockdown in March last year, and somewhat fortunately I've recently been bought out of my marital home after my marriage of 6 years came to an end in May (unrelated to the debt).

As mentioned earlier in the thread I've treated myself to a few bits, after having been in a relationship for 12 years where we'd pretty much scrimped and saved throughout.. but I've bought what I wanted, had enough to clear my debt, and had a little bit left over to start a savings account with a deposit. I'm now going to continue paying in to the savings what I'd otherwise be paying against the debt, and hopefully in a few years I will once again have enough money to get back on the property ladder if I wish to do so - but in the meantime, I'm perfectly happy in the flat that I'm renting.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I'm a spender & a saver. I tend to follow the 20/30/50 rule. 20% on savings, 30% on wants, and 50% on needs. It doesn't always work out though.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I am definitely a saver. I plan out and save money. If I wish to buy which is useful for me, I just go for it.

RE: Are you a saver or a spender?

I am always disciplined and careful when it comes to money. Spending unnecessarily isn't my doings. I spend when necessary, and save some, invest too.
