So I know alot of you will probably say that today it's garbage.... and I agree lol. However there once was a time it was on top of the industry. Did you guys ever get to use it during the 3.x days? Did you use it after that?

RE: vBulletin

Nowadays it's obviously a joke but it had its own thingy, i won't say it's appealing to the eye but it has something.

I never had any contact with the Admin CP though, i'm merely talking about my normal user experience. You never knew what topic was last posted for example.

The ACP is a mess. I guess it had its own thing but its nowhere near what it used to be.

What about the customization? Moderation tools? What about the personal inbox?

I hear it doesnt really have much in terms of apps but themes are still a thing I think.

It has everything required. I won't lie their inbox system is actually quite advanced. About 5 years ago they moved to a chat system for personal messages. Basically like an intsant messenger.

There are plenty of themes out there, most definitely. SultanTheme is their top theme maker thus far. Mostly designs gaming themes and so forth.

Mainly what the software lacks is user friendliness. They didn't even have friendly URLs for the longest time on vBulletin 5. The fact that there are no add-ons for it is what mainly changes the game.

vBulletin 4 is their main product mostly used to this date. Though it has been out of date for quite some time. I was using vBulletin 3 when I was about 15 years old posting on an old flash game site forum. Best choices are either Xenforo 2 or IPB

I can see why as its more up to date but still a shame as vb 3 > vb4

RE: vBulletin

I was quite heavily involved with vBulletin 3 and the v3arcade. It was quite easy to write code for, and the plugin system was quite advanced for its time!

I never tried vBulletin 4 or 5 as I'd already sold my license, but I hear it was quite the mess.

Yeah vB 3 was awesome. It will always be my favorite piece of forum software if not in second place. 4 was ok, but 5 is... awful lol.

RE: vBulletin

I have never have any personal experience with vBulletin (Admin Panel), but i love to try to it and see what makes the users say it is bad and other forum software is good.

RE: vBulletin

I used VB in like 2006. But switched to Xenforo and kept using that. :)

RE: vBulletin

God hearing someone say it's garbage sounds so weird. I remember when it was the must-have big forum software. I did love the style tho and still do. I might get an old vbulletin for my forum tbh.

I haven't used VB5 so I dunno. I like 3 a lot tho.

Yeah and there's a lot of other people that find it garbage since VB5 as well. So many made the upgrade mistake and had their forums ruined. It was good until VB5 and then went downhill. If you need a company question and answer small little site it would work okay I assume.

RE: vBulletin

I loved (and still do) vBulletin 3.x and 4.x series. VB5 was terrible. Revillution was born on vBulletin 3.8.x and man I miss those days :(

RE: vBulletin

I ran VB3 in 2006 and on until I started using Xenforo.

RE: vBulletin

I did want to use it one day, I think I played with a demo back in the day but I found IPB more appealing and user-friendly. Then Xenforo came around and it was no question who I had to go to for my forum needs.

RE: vBulletin

Back in 2009 when I started getting into web development I actually refused and still do to this day, refuse to use any site using VB. They all look almost the exact same, 90% of them have the VB favicon on it, and the entire site is just clunky and junky looking. I have an extreme bias towards VB to be completely honest, though I do not knock anyone who uses it, I simply do not like to use the system as a viewer or dev.

RE: vBulletin

Personally 1@Xyphien[/uSER] there are some heavily customized sites that look good on VB in my opinion. One being the modding site next gen update which I've always swear uses a heavily customized form of vBulletin 5 (though not entirely sure). I have seen some sites that are able to pull it off.

I still prefer Xenforo. Invision Power Board isn't too bad either.
