PHP 8.0?

With the latest version of PHP released in November, PHP 8.0, I was wondering if anyone had upgraded yet? I recently came across some scripts coded in PHP still using 5.6 and I know majority of current scripts (WordPress, Xenforo etc.) are still only 7.x compatible.

So have you used 8.0 yet, and if not, when are you planning to upgrade?

RE: PHP 8.0?

I usually don't upgrade PHP versions this soon and haven't checked if Xenforo 2 even supports it yet but plan to later. However we are on php 7.2 which is one of the newer ones.

I would t update until at least 8.1, gives time for any issues to be found

Same here 1@Creaky[/uSER], I don't wait until the dark ages but I still like to give developers ample time to weed out mishaps and what not.

I'm concerned about this. My sites all seem to work with PHP 7.x but if they are deprecating anything in 8, I might have issues. I'll prolly just keep runiing 7.

I think I still need to work on getting my site up to 7.4. Which that might break some things, but I'm sure it will be a good year before I think of upgrading to 8.

I wish I could turn off automatic upgrading of my server software. It keeps bumping up the PHP version! :(

RE: PHP 8.0?

From the server side. I don't think I do have access to the PHP 8. The version we do have is 7.3 as of now. I know there are some other releases too. But as of now we are kind of set on the PHP 7 enough. I think we have to let PHP mature on our end of the server and then we can see how that one goes next year or when wordpress and other CMS needs them.

I have no plans to update, particularly as I don't have the functionality to do so myself on the shared host I'm with..

With the amount of XF add-ons that I run, it feels somewhat inevitable that I'll run it to problems - but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!

I find it hard to believe there is no way to turn off or block updates. Maybe reach out to the server owners?

RE: PHP 8.0?

Even when it's out, it's going to be some time before hosting services get to upgrade there network. Mostly, I know that my host provider does that they do tests and they won't release it till it's flying colours. Plus it's not always a good idea to get right into the new PHP version. I mean my forum Software is not ready LOL

Happy to wait six or more months, only time when I update if the Forum software and plugins that I use on my site needs to start using it. In many cases that HPH 7 series will be with us for years to come

RE: PHP 8.0?

I'm still using 7.x and probably will continue to do so until enough things are built around it. When XF, WP, and everything else has it so features are more enriched through 8 I'll upgrade it but until then I'm sticking with 7 :)
