Logos yourself or hire someone else?

When it comes to making logos for your own projects/forums/blogs, (if you have the skills) do you prefer to make them yourself or hire someone else?

Whilst I've always been a huge graphic-design fan and can do things myself, I've often preferred hiring someone to make logos for me as I lack in the creative field - Never seem to be able to design how things should look myself: Can just 'do' and make them a reality

What about you?

Our logo was a graphic I had already bought and I did a few edits before using it. I personally would try to make a logo as they aren't too hard to make. I'm more different when it comes to styles though. I tend to value someone elses work if I was using a style for my site.

My graphics skills are terrible so always pay someone else to do them

I actually make my own logo but I once bought some shirt design and I'm lucky I didn't go to jail so I rather sit down for hours and make my own lame designs :ROFLMAO:

I've done both, but the logo for my latest project Umbrella Online is one that I created.

I played around with it as a concept and it just kinda came together.. It probably helped that I did the logo before I even had a style! :D

Speaking of logos, I am in need of one. I can pay with steam keys. I have tons of keys all sorts of different games. If i had photoshop Id use it even though im trash at pen tool.

1@Joshi[/uSER] I mean the Mind Piff logo. As you can see it's now a flag. I decided on the change recently. The one we have now should suffice.

I went to art school so I always design my own logos. I know what I want usually without having to explain it to someone else and if I decide mid-design that it's taken on a new path I can easily follow it through with no extra expense. When I worked in Advertising and they hired illustrators to design logos, what they paid for included only 3 revisions according to the contract we had. That doesn't include corrections of mistakes made by the artist.

Most of my logos are made by me. My avatar I had an artist draw the phoenix overtop of a city burning. This will be my final tattoo I get and I loved it so much I made it both my companies logo as well as my avatar.

Well i see no one decided to DM me, I am serious about doing it myself with the right program I can find or torrent or pay someone to do some art for me but i ain tpaying 300+ for a logo.

I can do it, however I do not accept steam keys. I charge $40 for logos, which is fairly cheap compared to others :)

That actually isn't too bad 1@Xyphien[/uSER]. Have you tried Fiverr at all promoting it? I guarantee your work is professional. I will also keep an eye on the SEO workings you have.

Yeah, I have a fiverr. Haven't had any fiverr people buy it but I've had people but it from me through fiverr instead of direct paypal which I hoped would get me more fiverr clients to no avail though.

That's really cheap for logo pricing.

I used to charge $75 when I first started doing logos over 20 years ago! Eventually I went up to $150 and even that was too low and people ended up paying me more because they liked my work.

You get what you pay for is usually the way the saying goes but I'm not trying to discredit Xyphien by saying that. What I'm saying is that no one should expect 10 hours of work for $40.

I have over 17k logo/assets I use and have full licensing too for my company. I take those and altar them as seen fit for a quick, easy and still a fairly custom work which is why I'm able to charge for cheap. Completely custom work I charge hourly starting at $30/hr so I completely understand where you're coming from. My goal is to allow people a cheaper alternative without cutting back on the quality.

I much rather have someone with skill and vision make me a logo. Though only because they can do it, doesn't mean they can do it well.
