Yeah, we had a Heavy metal forum back with that .tk ext. I can't really tell how big it was.. but at least it was way better than those proboard forums.

RE: Invisionfree

Haha yeah. I initially made the jumo from proboards to invisionfree mostly because proboards wasn't mega secure. I remember .tk domains! I used to obsess over free domains as a kid.

Back then having a domain was expensive and personally i didn't have any income at all so.. that's all i could do, my .tk account mail still greets me on my birthday lol

Same here. Back then it felt almost the same but it was tough to connect the .tk domain the same way so its not just a redirect. I remember back then getting a domain with yahoo would cost 10 bucks a month.

I remember that the domain was 100$ a year and hosting was around 20$/month and you always come short for forums because it had only 500 MB or so.

If you had 200 users and all of them had avatars.. you came short in space just for that.. and posts were heavy as well with IPB..

RE: Invisionfree

Yeah shit was suprisingly expensive back then looking back on it. I wonder what changed.

RE: Invisionfree

Storage became cheaper and bandwith too. Domains are cheap as 10$ a year and hostings starting from 5$ a month.

I think web 2.0 made us forget the dark age of internet where no one knew anything about each other lol. Forums were always important but now the young kids never been into one.

Funny thing, now that InvisionFree's servers gone for good everyone is wanting to have their sites back.

I guess one really does need to appreciate what they have while they had it. I forgot about the 10 dollar a month domain fee for ages, myself. lol.

RE: Invisionfree

I've tried InvisionFree a number of times since ProBoards updated to V5, back 10+ years ago, and occasionally over the years. Never really liked the lack of some features that you could use to expand capabilities. It seemed that there were always something that was lacking in the plugin system and themes, that could have given it an advantage, if some features were available as an extension off of their system.

RE: Invisionfree

Never heard of free forum hosting service called invisionfree. I did a quick search on Google and looks like the service is already discontinued. If you want to try free hosted forums, you can try proboards. I have checked a lot of forums built with proboards and they look nice.
