Changing the appearance of Windows?

Themes, icon/sound packages, and even start menu replacements are nothing new.. They've been around since Windows XP, and earlier in some cases.

Do you still use any applications that do any of this for you?

I've recently just purchased a license for http://Stardock Object Desktop, primarily for a bit of Desktop organisation but it's also fun playing around with a couple of other bits.. I'm currently running Fences, Start10, and CursorFX - for the most part, they're pretty decent at what they do. Fences takes a little while to load from startup, but I can live with it.

The only appearance change in Windows for me is mostly just the wallpaper background. It's not too often I look into any further changes, especially the cursor. It might get confusing but some people like it I suppose.

I'm not attracted of "themes" since most of them after a slight upgrade becomes obsolete most of the times. I only changed my cursor since i hate the white arrow

I recently came across a subreddit for people to share screenshots of their Windows' setup where they have customised a lot of things. It looked really good and I was thinking of customising mine too but in the end, I just couldn't be bothered lol

I am not one who likes all the bells & whistles. I tend to focus more on the writing aspect than the technical one. I have one theme & keep it. I changed the arrow & cursor to be orange & a pinch bigger so I could maneuver it better.

I don't think windows 10 requires any add-ons like this. It is already feature packed, Icons and other packages are well moulded to suit the environment. I only change my desktop background, and that's enough for me.
3-4 years back, While using windows 7 professional, I did installed some third party packages. But it slowed down my PC drastically. It's better to use OS as raw as possible for smooth performance.

I don't change anything these days apart from the wallpaper. Few years ago I used to use the patched uxtheme.dll to change things, not anymore though.

So you have too tried uxtheme.dll. I remember once I tried to copy it in my system32 folder, but I never worked. Even after restart, I got a registry error.
Later, I had reformatted my PC and installed other packages by downloaded from websites and it did work. :giggle:

Well, i have no interest in the theme/appurtenance but Microsoft has limited this in Win 10 to its own themes but they're limited in what they can change
