Recently' an Uber driver who was a mother of three was killed by a rider.   However, this story garnered no national attention.  On the other hand, other stories, motivated by social justice got plenty of coverage.

Do you feel this is right to do, out of fear of causing a backlash among some?  Anyway, like with American soldiers overseas, if one acts bad, the whole population gives Americans an attitude.   This sucks but is the way it is often times.

RE: Bias in News Story Emphasis

Depending on the sex of the person, what time of day it happened, location of the incident plays a big role as well. There's not much I know to say except let you in on knowing the location is a huge factor. Something in Japan might not get attention then a 25 year old woman who may have died as opposed to a japanese prison inmate escaping. That's the best example I can give.
