The latest trend to affordable housing is 3D printed houses.  Another is converting large containers into small compact homes.  The innovative creativity involved is really awesome.  These houses are way much cheaper and sturdier.  The icing on the cake is that it is affordable and costs a fraction of concrete brick ad cement construction.

I have heard of "tiny homes".  I suppose the containers thing is a type of tiny home.   Anyway, from what I know, they can go as cheap as $5,000 up to around what a new double-wide trailer might cost.
