It's so much harder in my opinion to get a blog active then it is a forum. Depending on the niche you chose for your blog, it could be a lot easier. For example the blog css-tricks which is widely popular for learning to build websites is well known. But that's because the genre they chose. One for reading books and so forth would be much harder.

Why I prefer forums. But neither are easy.

Not so many people read anymore Theres a few but the internet kinda ruined books those who sell books did not read you the book to buy

I have a literature based blog and let me tell you, it's not easy. I've had my blog for over 6 years. You have to really offer something different to draw people in.....
