Some people use a VPN to hide their information as a form of privacy. Personally I don't download torrents or anything illegal that would be considered piracy so I will admit I don't use one. I know for a fact it's still good practice to use a VPN, I just never have. The main reason is I have nothing to hide. I do realize however that most people who use one don't either. -

This new computer has a VPN with it but tho I would love to use it, I can't get on my own forum! We're careful about downloading things. Don't like to use our debit card & if we do, it's for big name companies like Vitacost or Chewy that I order from often. Prefer to use Paypal. Don't do Facebook nor Google. Pay cash at most places. We lost our money out of our bank account 3 times in these 20 years so we're more cautious of privacy. By the way, Jan 28 is Data Privacy Day!https://holisticallysecular.proboards.com/

That's too bad too hear. Yeah you have to be careful these days. There are a lot of con artists out there. Plenty of them and usually what they do is pretend like they are offering you a service and so forth, and then rob you blind. One thing I noticed with firefox is new security measures. There was a false positive in my browser that blocked me from my own website mind piff and I had to fix it. Apart from changing my passwords regularly, not much at all. I'm not worried about DDoS or Dos attacks on my IP since I have a built-in firewall with fast speeds. I haven't really given much thought to using a VPN, though.Comment

It seems these days that every site we visit collects information about us and we have to determine whether we want to allow that to happen in order to use their site. I grew up with people knowing where I live just by looking up my name in the telephone book but now people want to be far hidden away from everyone online as if everyone is a bad guy. My name is a very common name so it's hard to look me up and find the right me...there are 2 other women in my husband's family with the same name and we're all from the same town.
I don't use VPNs unless my IP gets blocked. I don't like to state out loud which state I live in but I don't go out of my way to really hide it when I sign up on forums either.Comment

I don’t follow any hard or fast rules to keep my data private except for using difficult passwords, extra emails, providing less personal information and using the browser in private mode.Comment

I generally attempt to atleast not provide information on myself in places that I feel would cause issues to have my privacy invaded. I usually will not provide my private information on forums and sites that would not have a need for it, and if I feel like someone can't handle private info that well, I will not share with them.Comment

I generally do not provide my personal information on myself to anybody I don't know online or offline. The biggest issue is that identity fraud can become a reality if information which is considered private, becomes accessible on public domain. I also make sure that I know my rights when it comes to the Data Protection Act and Data Deletion Requests.Comment

One thing everybody can do is to start using a password manager and using a unique password (and ideally username) for every service. This way, a breach at one service won't expose your accounts at other services. But not as seriously as I should. I still use Facebook for example, as there are some useful groups there and some friends and family-friends I like to keep in touch with and that's how they do it.
Even with firewalls and other things, that want stop you or them - Plsu my $500 router can protect me XD[align=center]http://<img class="bbcode-attachment...="0" alt="" />

Even if I don't like changing my name for literally every site or platform I registered. It doesn't mean, I expose my identity anyhow, I keep it confidential. Because online is full of malicious users who can simply push for identity theft if I leak such information.Comment
