  • Almost had to buy a new laptop

Every year Apple releases their beta for iOS & MacOS I get impatient and update to the beta, then eventually downgrade because of a bug, which is expected.

This time around I couldn’t remove the beta update even after wiping my hard drive, so I just started deleting everything to try and solve the problem.

The MacOS install couldn’t install because it had no where to install too. So I got lucky and created a partition somewhere in hopes that would work. It did and now I have to wait over 28 hours for 3 versions outdated MacOS install to completed before I can begin the journey of getting back to Catalina.

I know it was my fault obviously but from now on I think I’ll just not install any beta. I recently had a problem with an update that I managed to fix. I keep all my stuff up to date, but if the OS is considered stable I should have no problem.

I have considered going back to Windows but I don’t like OS and I much prefer MacOS look. I have also considered going to Android that way I can get off my phone contract because I wouldn’t have a problem if the iPhones cost $1k in Australia but that don’t.

But the problem with Android is that it’s by Google. And I am a big Apple fan. Because with Apple, it just works.

    so yeah

One reason why I went to Apple’s MacOS is because I always, without fail, had problems on Windows when it came to programming / scripting. So imo unless you’re making something for Windows only, you program on a Mac.

Another issue with going to Windows would be that I use Apple’s Numbers (spreadsheet)

All that said, I am most interested, for Android, in the following: Google Pixel, Samsung & OnePlus.

GP because it’s stock Android but GP without fail always looks way outdated.

Samsung because of ecosystem and because best looking Android phone imo.

OnePlus because I like the brand name.

Now if I did go with Android, I would have to get their ecosystem.

I also like privacy, so that’s also why I use Apple amongst other reasons.

I have considered switching for money’s sake, but if I ever got back into programming, MacOS is the way, so...

I always did everything on UNIX or Windows, here we don't have a tradition of using MAC systems unless you work at a multimedia/ads company.

Money is always something to consider, a <800$ system has superior perfomance over a >1000$ unit with MAC. Nothing else to discuss really.

The reinstall is complete. Now begins the update.

RE: Almost had to buy a new laptop

I honestly could not afford mac and so only windows and linux are my priority as of now. I had the issues with the laptop during the lockdown and I had to get a new laptop and all of the prices and things around were getting expensive. so I could not even do that. I'd say that you keep atleast one handy laptop or tablet in the event that if your main machine fails.

I simply refused to get any apple product. They're all over priced products, Steve Jobs was an awful human being and his marketing and companies ethics show the same. I've only used Windows to be honest, though I've dabbled in Linux but never enough to want to or warrant a switch.

Wait, how could the beta update still be there after wiping your hard drive? That don't make sense?

I haven't used Windows since 1998. Been UNIX and linux ever since. I have good experience with it. Go with Linux
