  • Anyone use GIMP or Inkscape? Or do you just prefer photoshop

Was wondering if anyone uses these. I have used GIMP for many years and never got into Photoshop because I don't like the way their sales model works. To be quite frank with the community their sales model suck. There's a contract if you pay monthly and I think even if you pay yearly. I was actually considering buying it soon since I'm into web development but have thought otherwise as I've spent my money on other things.

GIMP is probably the best free tool out there for bitmap images and I don't use Inkscape as much but I have it. I hear that ones great for vectors. Since they are both FREE it's worth it.

How many of you have Photoshop?

Ive used inkscape for a couple different CNC jobs, when i wanna photoshop though i use pixlar because it free and is basically the same as photoshop. if you are doing professional drawing or something like that then id recommend buying photoshop just because its more professional optimized.

I've never heard of Pixlar. I'll try it out sometime. Sounds intriguing. I haven't used inkscape very much but gimp has always came in handy.

Yeah pixlar is extremely similar to photo shop except it's a browser tool. Any Photoshop work I do in there

I was planning on buying Photoshop at some point. It's not that expensive for a year you can get it for a little over $100 if you choose the photography plan. I just only use these tools for logos and stuff so it's not needed currently. Though it would come in handy for a web developer like me in the coming future.

1@Andox88[/USER] I'll check it out. Something you might be interested in as well is Paint.NET which is better than GIMP some people think. I don't know if I'd enjoy working through a browser but I might see if it's any good and google search it.

I use Photoshop. I've tried using GIMP and other alternatives in the past, but couldn't get on with them.

Back in the day I used Paintshop Pro before it got sold to Corel. Not quite as powerful as Photoshop, but very easy to use! :giggle:

Photoshop is far better of course. I just like it as a free editor. I mainly use it for logos and what not. I don't try to manipulate images very much with it. Takes some getting used to to learn how to use it properly.

Yeah, its one of those things where i feel like it could be good but the learning curve on it just isn't good so you gotta watch a bunch of videos on youtube to figure it out.

At the very least it has a transparent option for backgrounds. At first I had to search google to learn it. Yes I admit it can be complicated sometimes for something that doesn't have close to the features photoshop has. But can still come in handy for small minorities of edits

I like GIMP (not the un-PC name - lol) but it requires a learning curve - and no time. O.K. well, I cannot master layers.
