Hey some CIA agents get paid good money and their skills are far beyond the presidents. I would say a basic "no". Because the presidents skill set is undeserving compared to certain operatives and then you have special agents. Which should get paid the most out of anyone in the government. He still doesn't have to pay taxes ever again. -

I voted No because he is only there for 4 years whereas we have Government employees who stay in the system for their entire careers. Those who stay in the government expect to ladder up to the next level or at least get a cost of living type raise.Comment

I personally don't even think anyone should have full terms in the government. There's literally still people in office from when segregation was legal. They will inherently have bias, on top of that the way technology moves no one should be allowed to have a permanent status in the government. That being said the president shouldn't have the highest paying job in the government. I wasn't referring to politicians when I say people who work in the government. My husband used to have a government job and he is IT. It was a good job in some aspects in that the pay and insurance was great but it was bad in that he never felt appreciated.Originally posted by XyphienComment

President should not be compensated monetarily. The appropriate compensation is power, secret service status, and recognition.Comment

I do not agree that president should be the highest paid government employee. First, he is the head of government and the power bestowed on him more than compensates the monetory benefits he gets. Secondly his salary is high, not considering perks, and he remains on government payroll even after he leaves office. Considering all these, I believe he is well compensated for his position while in office. Better remuneration should be given to the military personnel, armed forces, police personnel, the president's strategic team etc. Correct me if I am wrong, but does the president come under the category of government employee?Comment

The President shouldn't be the highest paid, but there are certain benefits they do get after they leave office. Plus previous presidents tend to get quite a bit of money for speaking engagements, so that is a bonus after leaving office, if the President decides to give speeches after the term(s) are up. Some previous Presidents do get a pretty penny to give speeches, so it is not like they are suffering after the fact, if they didn't have a high income before getting the position.Comment

No, the President should not be the highest-paid federal employee. The compensation of the President shall not exceed that of the highest military level, which is 4-star generals and admirals. The President is the military's commander-in-chief. As a result, if the President's pay exceeds that of the highest military rank, the public may believe that the military is being shortchanged.Comment
